The Arnld-Schultz Law or law of stimuli

Hormesis, from the Greek verb ormao, which means to stimulate, is a dose / response relationship characterized by a biphasic effect: many organisms exposed to a wide range of stimuli show opposite responses depending on the dose; hormesis is considered an adaptive function (Amendola, Cerioli, Migliore, 2006, 2008).

The hormetic responses are characterized by a modest stimulation of the affected function at low doses and by its inhibition at high doses.

We can therefore compare and enegetic principle to the phenomenon of water:

• a stimulus of a minimal amount (e.g.: water drops) results in plant growth; 
• an elevated stimulus (e.g.: flood) drowns and inhibits plant growth;
• an eradicating or destructive stimulus (e.g.: vigorous jet of water) destroys the plant.
